If you’re currently receiving a low-income (CARE) or medical equipment (Medical Baseline) discount, you will automatically continue to receive your discount if you choose to enroll in MCE. Eligibility for these programs is not affected by participation in MCE. Many MCE customers rely on these financial assistance programs to keep their energy costs affordable, and these discounts can provide a significant savings on the delivery charges portion of MCE customer bills.
Starting in August, electricity bills issued by PG&E were redesigned to better meet customer needs. All customers in Marin County and Richmond will be receiving this new bill design, regardless of their enrollment status with MCE or standard PG&E service. The new format includes a larger font, historical billing information, clearer language on PG&E charges, and much more. For more information, please visit PG&E’s website, or call 1 (866) 743-0335.
PG&E’s electric charges will decrease - that's because PG&E stops charging you for the cost of generating electricity. MCE will replace PG&E's charge for the cost of generating electricity. You’ll still have an electric charge from PG&E to cover the cost of distribution, transmission, and other taxes and fees that PG&E continues to charge you for - and at the same rates. MCE's replacement charge will appear on the first page of your bill along with PG&E's electric charges. Since you're paying two companies for different electric services, you will see two electric charge line items on the first page of your bill.
We know you're happiest with your electric service when you don't have to think about it. MCE doesn't change anything about that service - except making it cleaner. We procure the power from clean renewable sources to meet the demand needed by our customers and PG&E still delivers energy to your home or business through their power lines.
PG&E sends your monthly bill and provides customer service. And those repair and maintenance teams in the familiar blue PG&E trucks continue to provide the same reliable service you're used to - rain or shine.
Hundreds of local businesses in Marin and Richmond are choosing Deep Green 100% Renewable Energy. We invite you to support businesses who do their part to protect the environment.
If you live or work in the MCE service area - which includes Richmond and Marin - you have three choices for your electricity supply: MCE Light Green 50% renewable, MCE Deep Green 100% renewable, or PG&E's 19% renewable. If you'd like PG&E's option, opt out online or call 1 (888) 632-3674. Please have your PG&E account information on hand so we may process your request.
With two companies and only one bill, you're bound to have a few questions. View our Sample Bill to understand the different electric charges from PG&E and MCE.

It's simple: when you choose MCE, your electricity will still be delivered by PG&E. PG&E will continue to maintain the power lines, read your meter, issue monthly bills and provide the same maintenance and repair services they always have. The simple difference is that with MCE you can choose to purchase 50-100% of your electricity from clean, renewable sources such as solar, wind, water and bioenergy - compared to only 20% from PG&E.
